Abstract

This project is presenting a sonic art installation project “SilkWormSonicLifeCycle” which is a multidisciplinary artistic project. The use of Silkworms (Caterpillars) which are the main protagonists in this project for generating the artistic concepts and sonic materials from their “Biological Life Cycle” observation which is a series of changes in form that an organism undergoes, returning to the starting state.

The duration of one “Biological Life Cycle” for the domestic silkworms could be around 4-6 weeks so the main idea is based to underline the artistic vital concepts on the larval stage to picture these metamorphosis aspects. Each stage (instars) could evoke the deep thoughts about the human “Biological Life Cycle” and tries to connect sonically these two creatures which are totally unrelated in other terms. “BioArt is an art practice where humans work with live tissues, bacteria, living organisms, and life processes in “BioArt” terms Creating living beings and practising in the life sciences brings about the ethical, social, and aesthetic inquiry. One of the most important aims for presenting this project is to underline the vital values by the sonic world and highlighting the metamorphosis aspects of our life.
